I love making knit items for new arrivals! I’ve tried my hand at plenty of knit baby hat patterns over the years, but find myself well and truly in love with the Garter Flap Hat from Purl Soho.
There are so many things to love about this pattern! It’s adorable, great protection for little ears, an interesting design, and with worsted weight yarn it’s super fast to come together. This pattern offers some new challenges for the beginning knitter – working in the round, short rows, and decreases. But, as with all of Purl Soho’s patterns, the instructions are clear, and offer great images to demonstrate techniques. As with so many of the patterns that are offered from this amazing store, there is beauty in simplicity.
Finding some soft and cushy (and washable!) baby yarn is a key to an excellent knit baby hat! I highly recommend Swish Worsted from WeCrochet! (This goes without saying, but, not just a site for crocheters!) This wonderfully cozy yarn is perfect for the most precious projects – and it comes in fabulous colors, too.
Now I’m off to put this sweet hat in the mail! And I’ll probably cast on another as soon as I get home. <3
